Ji Xuan was one of the participants of Spiritual Road. There he became an enemy of Mu Chen, going so far as to orchestrate Mu Chen's expulsion. The reason that he orchestrated Mu Chen's expulsion from the Spiritual Road was because he was jealous of Mu Chen, who managed to get Luo Li to look at him with gentleness and support him. Due to this, he managed to get other participants from the Spiritual Road to target Luo Li. Mu Chen reacted by slaughtering everyone that had targeted her. After Mu Chen's expulsion, with Ji Xuan about to snatch the crown of the Spiritual Road, Luo Li blocked him and told him that she wouldn't kill him, as she'd leave him for Mu Chen to kill. This enabled Wen Qingxuan to finish the Spiritual Road as the champion.
After the Spiritual Road, Ji Xuan joined the Saint Spiritual Academy, there he quickly rose up to become one of the Four Holy Sons of the Saint Spiritual Academy, though as a freshman, he earned the ire of the other students that had attended the academy longer. As one of the Four Holy Sons, he led a team into the Great Spiritual Academy Tournament, where he would quickly rise up to number one on the rankings. However due to the fact that he had schemed and created an array of allies among the teams, with Mu Chen taking down his allies, he retaliated by targeting Shen Cangsheng's, hoping to bait Mu Chen. With Mu Chen figuring out Ji Xuan's plan, the two met just as Ji Xuan was about to seriously injure Shen Cangsheng and Li Xuantong. It turned out that Ji Xuan had more allies though, and they were revealed to be Liu Qingyun and Fang Yun. However, due to the fact that Mu Chen had prepared by bringing along his own allies, Ji Xuan and Mu Chen agreed to a one-on-one fight. After fighting for a while, Ji Xuan revealed that he was actually at the 3rd Grade Spirit Disaster, though it was unable to suppress Mu Chen's Ennea Rune Lightning Physique, which had reached the maximum level. With the two seemingly evenly matched, Ji Xuan found himself on the defensive side as Mu Chen launched his Divine Wood Scripture and Lightning Controlling Technique, forcing Ji Xuan to use his Bloodline Bond with a Primordial Skydragon Hawk to defend against it.
During the final battle in the Great Spiritual Academy Tournament (Battle for the Champion), Ji Xuan + Primordial Skydragon Hawk vs Mu Chen + Nine Netherworld Bird, Mu Chen destroyed Ji Xuan physical body and severely injured his Spirit. Even if Ji Xuan could still cultivate, it was tough for him to achieve anything. [1]
