When Mu Chen charged into the eighth level of the Lightning Territory in the Northern Heavens Spiritual Academy, he encountered a Bald Old Man. The Bald Old Man initially took all the Divine Lightning Beads refined by Mu Chen and Jiu You as it was considered cheating. But after Mu Chen passed a test from him, he let them continue refining the Divine Lightning Beads and even rewarded Mu Chen with a Body Refining Technique. Though it was incomplete, it greatly increased Mu Chen's strength.[1]
Mu Chen later makes use of the technique to withstand a remnant divine black light, from Jiu You's lightning tribulation. In the process, he also absorbs part of the lightning and refines it into a lightning bead in his body.[2]
During the final stages of the hunt in the Spiritual Light Realm, Mu Chen destroys the lightning bead to bring the incomplete Lightning Physique to new heights and manages to gain victory against Gu Tianyan's strongest attack.[3] Northern Sea Dragon later reveals to Mu Chen that by destroying the lightning bead, he unknowingly caused poison to appear in his body and that to survive it he needs to help the Northern Sea Dragon in harvesting the Lightning God Pill from the highest level of the Lightning Territory[4]. Mu Chen agrees and is given the Complete form of the Ennea Rune Lightning Physique, which is cultivated by creating runes on the body which increase the user's strength immensely. Mastering the technique is done by creating nine runes, which gives the user's body enough power to destroy a Sovereign with one punch.
Mu Chen then uses the technique to move all the poison in his body into his finger and seals it there, by doing that he also creates a Divine Black Lightning Poison Finger, which by itself has the ability to seriously injure someone at the Heavenly Completion Stage [5]

- Although right now, the Lightning God’s Physique that he had cultivated might not be the most powerful Body Refining Technique out there, it had something that other techniques did not. The Lightning God’s Physique could thoroughly refine the body, in and out. It couldn’t bestow the cultivator an incredibly powerful physique, but it granted the cultivator a good physique. This way, when they cultivate other Body Refining Techniques in the future, the efficacy would be greatly increased.
